StatusIn force
LanguageDutch

The Dutch alerting rule, unchanged since September 2009, with an official explanatory note. The main rule: alert any bid the opponents might understand differently without a warning, which depends partly on the opponents’ level. The opponents may forbid alerting for the rest of the round.

Alerting at a glance

Basic rule
Alert any bid the opponents might understand differently without a warning. What needs an alert partly depends on the opponents' level.
How to alert
Partner shows the alert card; with no bidding box, knock on the table.
Doubles
Not alerted unless the main rule applies.
Pre-alerts
Point out special agreements before each round and hand over two completed system cards.
Good to know
The opponents may forbid alerting for the rest of the round — the pair that forbids must still alert.
